PREMIER MINISTER OF THE REPUBLIC OF BULGARIA S.STANISHEV PAYS THREE-DAY OFFICIAL VISIT TO THE REPUBLIC OF AZERBAIJAN Prime Minister of Bulgaria arrived Sunday on a three-day official visit to Azerbaijan. At the Heydar Aliyev International Airport, Bulgarian Premier was met by Azerbaijan’s Prime Minister Artur Rasizade, Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov and other officials. At the VIP room of the airport, S. Stanishev and his Azerbaijani counterpart Artur Rasizade had a brief conversation. PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV RECEIVES PRIME MINISTER OF BULGARIA SERGEY STANISHEV President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received at the Presidential Palace on Monday Bulgarian delegation led by Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev. The President characterized Azerbaijan-Bulgaria relations as developing successfully in political, economic and other fields. Recalling his visit to Sofia two years ago, he stressed its importance in terms of strengthening the existing cooperation between the two countries. The Azerbaijani leader also touched on the countries’ partnership within international organizations including the European Union, highly valuing Bulgaria’s constant support of Azerbaijan within the New Neighborhood program. President Ilham Aliyev said there were new prospects for development of bilateral economic relations, and expressed confidence that the visit by the Bulgarian Prime Minister to Azerbaijan would serve further expansion of cooperation between the two countries. Prime Minister Stanishev stressed the importance of President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Bulgaria for development of bilateral cooperation. He underlined reciprocal visits by the heads of the two states play great role for the political relations between their countries to develop successfully. The Prime Minister also mentioned the necessity of strengthening bilateral economic relations. BULGARIAN PREMIER STANISHEV VISITS ICHARI SHAHAR Bulgarian Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev and his accompanying delegation, who are in Azerbaijan, visited Ichari Shahar (Old City), the historical core of the country`s capital, Baku, on Sunday. The Bulgarian delegation viewed a personal carpet exhibition of painter Kamil Aliyev. Stanishev was informed about the carpet-making history in Azerbaijan. Then, he viewed the Karvansara where he had a tea party and enjoyed Azerbaijani folk music. The Bulgarian delegation also viewed the Maiden Tower BULGARIAN PRIME MINISTER VISITS ALLEY OF HONORS Bulgarian delegation led by Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev visited Monday the Alley of Honors in Baku to lay flowers at the graves of the national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev and his wife Academician Zarifa Aliyeva. BULGARIAN PRIME MINISTER VISITS ALLEY OF MARTYRS Bulgarian delegation led by Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev visited Monday the Alley of Martyrs in Baku to pay respect to brave sons of Azerbaijan who died for the country’s independence and territorial integrity. Stanishev also laid a wreath at the “Eternal Fire” monument. The Bulgarian delegation was accompanied by Azerbaijani deputy foreign minister Khalaf Khalafov and other senior officials. In a brief interview with journalists, Sergey Stanishev said it is high time Bulgaria and Azerbaijan intensify their friendly relations. ”Bulgaria is already a member of the European Union, and we must develop not only our political, but also economic relations”, Stanishev noted. He said this will be a huge boost to the strengthening of Azerbaijan-EU cooperation under the new neighborhood policy. Stanishev said he believes his talks in Baku will be a success. On the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, the Bulgarian Premier said the conflicting sides should continue their efforts towards finding a peaceful solution. AZERBAIJAN, BULGARIA SIGN INTERGOVERNMENTAL DOCUMENTS Azerbaijan`s Prime Minister Artur Rasizade and Bulgarian Premier Sergey Stanishev signed intergovernmental documents in Baku on Monday. The documents signed included: an agreement on economic cooperation, an agreement on antimonopoly policy and protection of competitiveness, and a Convention on elimination of double taxation. Speaking at the ceremony, Rasizade said he believes the visit of his Bulgarian counterpart and the documents signed will give boost to the development of the two countries` relations. The Azeri premier expressed satisfaction with the level of political ties between Azerbaijan and Bulgaria. Artur Rasizade said, however, the two countries` economic relations are poor, and stressed the Azerbaijan-Bulgaria intergovernmental commission must intensify its work. He spoke of regional energy and transport projects that Azerbaijan is the participant in and the initiator of. Rasizade said the Azeri government is making every effort to find a peaceful solution with Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Bulgarian Premier Stanishev said trade between Bulgaria and Azerbaijan is 10 million dollars, but it does not correspond with their growing economic potential. Azerbaijan and Bulgaria agreed to hold the next sitting of the intergovernmental economic commission and a joint business forum in Sofia next summer. BULGARIAN PREMIER ENDS AZERBAIJAN TRIP Bulgarian Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev ended his visit to Azerbaijan Tuesday. At the Heydar Aliyev International Airport, Stanishev was seen off by Azerbaijani counterpart Artur Rasizade and other senior officials. AZERBAIJANI MINISTER OF YOUTH & SPORTS MEETS WITH BULGARIAN DELEGATION [September 18, 2006, 21:46:19] Azad Rahimov, Azerbaijani Minister of Youth and Sports met September 18 with Vessela Lecheva, head of the State Agency for Youth and Sport of Bulgaria. Mr. Rahimov told of development of sports in the republic, its successes in the world arena and the existing problems. Mrs. Lecheva, in her turn, highly appreciated the development of sports in Azerbaijan. Agreement on cooperation in youth and sports area between the two countries, which is scheduled to sign on September 19 will strengthen the existing ties, he said. During the visit, the guests will familiarize themselves with the sports facilities and meet with the delegations of youth organizations. AZERBAIJAN & BULGARIA STRENGTHEN COOPERATION IN FIELDS OF YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS [September 20, 2006, 11:14:53] On September 19, Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov and Chairperson of Bulgaria's State Agency for Youth and Sports Mrs. Vesela Lecheva signed a co-operation agreement. Azad Rahimov said the accord envisages exchange of experience as well as enhancement of cooperation. Vesela Lecheva described her visit as fruitful, adding it will mark a new phase in strengthening the bilateral ties. AT THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRES, WAS HELD THE SECOND MEETING OF THE HEADS OF DIPLOMATIC MISSIONS OF AZERBAIJAN REPUBLIC         In the period of 14-18 August 2006 at the Ministry of Foreign Affaires, was held the second meeting of the heads of diplomatic missions of Azerbaijan Republic. On the meeting which traditionally is held each two years, the Minister Elmar Mammadyarov presented the report about the activity of diplomatic missions in the period after the last meeting held in 2004.         At the first day of the meeting the President of Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev had a long speech. The head of state spoke about the priorities of the foreign policy and about the growing image of Azerbaijan within the International Organisations and about the achievements of our country in this field. At the same time, the president Ilham Aliyev gave the needed instructions and commission concerning a more effective accomplishment of the targets expected from the diplomats of the country.         During the four - day meeting, were discussed the process of the regulation of Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, development of bilateral relations and the collaboration with the international organisations, the security issues, the economic, consular and juridical cooperation, the human rights Communities and other humanitarian issues including also the work with Azerbaijani Communities abroad, the issues regarding the intensification of propaganda for a wider popularisation of our country in the International Community. Regarding all above mention issues were expressed different opinions and proposals.         PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV ATTENDS OFFICIAL INAUGURATION OF THE HEYDAR ALIYEV BAKU-TBILISI-CEYHAN MAIN EXPORT OIL PIPELINE July 13, 2006A solemn official inauguration of the Heydar Aliyev Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Main Export Oil Pipeline (BTC), the largest energy project of the 21st century, was held on July 13 in the Turkish city of Ceyhan.
